Envoy was a Canadian rebranding of imported British-built Vauxhall and Bedford vehicles from ‘59 to around 1970. They rusted a lot in their time as they weren’t properly rust-proofed across the pond to stand up to Canadian winters , so there are VERY few left here (I think I’ve seen one of ANY model in my lifetime if memory serves) ....and then this poor surviving ‘61 Envoy has this done to it... :(

If you got rid of the hideous wheels, and rechrome all that black crap that’s supposed to be chrome, I would be ok ( but still would swap the TH350 for a manual).

Wow, those wheels are entirely too large for that car. I think this is a classic example of someone assuming that because something looks good on someone else’s car, that it must look good on their car, too. Blackout trim works on some vehicles, but not this. Nor do those wheels which are a propo rtional mess, and the attempt to make it look like a coupe by shaving the rear door handles has not worked at all... I sure hope someone will be able to reverse the damage.

Yeah, I think the wheels are the part I dislike the most...but also the smoked taillights...on a classic car....it just looks terrible...

The sad thing is these are INCREDIBLY rare, so to find the parts to try and put it moreso back to stock would likely be nigh on impossible....plus, hell knows what kind of hacking was done to it to get the Chevy engine and that driveline setup and such in there...

I wholeheartedly agree. The best this thing could ever become again is just a less blinged out resto-mod, so it is pretty much irreversible given parts availability.

Speaking of survivors, I had a fantastic day for DOTS and saw this. More tomorrow.

Honestly, I’d probably leave the Chevy drivetrain in there, but try to clean up the appearance a bit. With any luck, the builder will have saved the bumper, door handles, etc, so those things could be reinstalled, and the stuff that’s supposed to be chrome could be re-chromed. the wheels would obviously have to go, those don’t belong anywhere near this thing. I think this is the kind of car where if you were to hot rod it, it would be better to keep it looking mostly stock, and have the extra performance jus t be a bit of a fun surprise.

Well, put on your own tunes when you do and watch it at 50% or 75% speed if you have the patience. The actual footage turned out very well and the nonsensical grid of a city built over a railroad junction is pretty entertaining in itself.

The problem isn’t from having watched too much of it. The problem is from thinking it is actually reality, and not over the top scripted television where what you are seeing is actually a train wreck, but editing makes it seem like the train survived. The shows are actually useful in a don’t do this sort of way.

Certainly looks a lot warmer than here....around -1C, 0C at the moment with the call for flurries all day. Wish Spring would make up it’s mind as we had a day earlier this week that was like +18C and it was GLORIOUS, lol.

Also, watching videos like that is amusing as your surface streets are (at least many you were on) are like 4-6 lanes and here in Nova Scotia, the only time you see that is in Halifax, and even then, they are less common. I guess that’s what I get for living in a province that only has 1,000,000 people in the whole thing :P

Also fun seeing the differences in cars...I saw a Kia Rio (or Forte? Only got a glimpse of it) in yellow in your vid when we never got them in that color up here. :P

What was that cool Volvo you were behind at 1:41? I don’t recognize it, especially wit h those round taillights?

There were plenty of interesting cars I saw (like the CTS Coupe 2:32) and you mention a yellow Rio? I’m pretty sure it was the Rio that came in yellow.

And it has been pretty warm here off and on since February but it got a little cold last week before I shot this. It was nice to finally get out.

The sheer amount of lanes they have crammed into the old downtown is pretty impressive. It helps some of them are bridges built over old railroad tracks to imitate ground level (you can see this 2:48) but the streets are impressively wide for a city built well before the automobile. However, the lanes are very narrow and trying to get across 4 or 5 lanes in normal traffic is pretty difficult. And there is no rhyme or reason to when lanes appear and disappear so knowing where to be is difficult.

Oh I am aware and have much interest in that category of cars myself. I just found the color thing interesting. I never really noticed rare colors until I bought a car in an absurdly uncommon shade myself. The Cruze came in some good ones (British Racing Green, some sort of deep metallic blue, and many shades of red, plus my A utumn M etallic).

What’s even stranger is when you see a very expensive color option on a base trim car like mine (seriously, about 3 other options).

Cool! My Accent is, I think, probably the most common color they came in...’Midnight/Charcoal Gray Mica/Metallic’

It has various names in different places...sometimes called Mica, sometimes Metallic...sometimes Midnight Gray, sometimes Charcoal Gray....I do like it though :)

Dark gray can be nice, and looks clean longer than black. Plus, yours has a hint of blue in it. I prefer brighter more colorful paint myself, but you don’t always have a choice.

I didn’t really....I was looking for a decent price with the lowest kms when I purchased mine, and with a stick and base options. It was either the one I got or a black one that had some slightly janky things done to it!

Huh, I guess you find some good deals when you specifically avoid power windows and other luxury features. In 2018, Bluetooth was basically unobtainable under $5,000 so when I saw my Cruze resplendent in overripe-tomato reddish-orange and with Bluetooth I just went for it. Yeah disregard the fact that it was raining. And dark. And the seller was a dealer running it out of his apartment. I really got lucky in retrospect.

Very lucky, haha! Mine had been on the Used Cars lot of the local Mazda dealership for a year...nobody wanted the poor thing (“Eww, a car with no features? No thanks!”)...only had 54,000kms on it at the time and I managed to get it for $6900 CAD all-in (tax, fees and everything).

I would call that a good deal but then again I am also one of those people who doesn’t like electric seat adjustment. W e are clearly in the minority, paving the way for some smokin’ hot deals on cars without extraneous features . I am always surprised the amount of people who can’t figure out manual seat adjustment.

I’ve never even und erstood why electric seat adjust is even a thing...most people are the only ones driving their cars....so....like....you set the seat when you get the car....and then if you’re the only one driving it, you never need to adjust it after that. So all that complexity for nothing?

I can understand electric memory seats for, say families where two people drive the same vehicle all the time, but still...how hard is it to pull a lever or two and twiddle some knobs...

I just get unreasonably annoyed at how long it takes to move electric seats out of the way to vacuum. I can still find my place faster with manual seats so it’s a win win for comfort, time, money, and performance . I don’t mind heated but I also wouldn’t specifically pay for them in such a hot climate.
